This morning, my mind was full.

Stories were lining up one after another, scripture meeting folklore, truth meeting memory. I was excited. I thought this was going to be a good one.

And I did what many of us have done.

I didn’t write it down.

I stayed in bed thinking I had time, thinking I would remember. But memory doesn’t work like that, especially mine. It’s frugal. It keeps what it wants and lets the rest slip away.

And just like that, the stories were gone.

Now I’m sitting here, watching the time move, conversations starting, the day pressing in, and I can’t remember a single one of those stories that felt so perfect just a little while ago.

And I’m stuck.

But maybe this is the story.

How many times has this happened to us?
Not just with writing, but with life.

We had the idea.
We had the vision.
We had the plan.

And then nothing.

Hi, I’m Tameka, and welcome to Grace Across Borders: Biblical Lessons and Global Legends,
where timeless wisdom, global stories, and infinite grace come together.

Bible Story: When God Hears What Others Can’t

There was a woman who knew what it meant to live in a place that would not change.

Hannah longed to have a child, but she could not conceive. In her time, that was not just a private struggle, it carried shame. It followed her year after year.

Her husband loved her, but even that did not take the pain away. There was another woman in the household who had children and would provoke her because of it. So Hannah lived with disappointment and comparison at the same time.

Every year they went to the house of the Lord, and every year the pain followed her there.

One year, it became too much.

Scripture tells us in 1 Samuel 1:10–11 that she was in bitterness of soul and prayed to the Lord, weeping deeply. She made a vow before God, not to impress anyone, but because she was desperate.

Then in 1 Samuel 1:15, she explains what was happening inside of her:

“I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit… I have poured out my soul before the Lord.”

She wasn’t performing.
She wasn’t trying to sound right.
She was just honest.

Even when the priest misunderstood her, God did not.

Verse 19 says the Lord remembered her.

And in time, not instantly, not overnight, but in God’s timing, she conceived and gave birth to a son, Samuel.

Hannah didn’t just wait. She wept.
She didn’t just pray. She poured.
And God heard what nobody else understood.

Folklore: Don’t Call It Dead Too Soon

There’s an old Jamaican saying:

“Wha nuh dead, nuh call it duppy.”

What isn’t dead, don’t call it gone.

Don’t declare it over.
Don’t write the ending.
Don’t close the book.

Because just because you don’t see movement does not mean God isn’t moving.

Reflection: When “Impossible” Isn’t Final

This week, I came across a story of a woman who was told she had zero chance of having children.

No options left.
No medical pathway forward.
Nothing, not even an egg.

She tried everything. Treatments, shots, hope after hope, followed by disappointment after disappointment.

Until one day, after hearing there was nothing more they could do, she let go of the fight she had been holding so tightly.

She went on a date with someone unexpected.

And somewhere between letting go and just living, she conceived.

Not one child.

Twins.

A boy and a girl.

I thought about that.
I thought about my own friend from boot camp, told she would never have children, preparing for a hysterectomy, only to discover she was already pregnant with twins.

And I had to sit with this truth.

Doctors can speak.
Circumstances can speak.
Even our bodies can speak.

But God has the final word.

Personal Reflection: Speaking to My Own Stuck Place

And if I’m honest, this isn’t just about them.

This is me, this morning, sitting here feeling like I lost something important.

Feeling unproductive.
Feeling behind.
Feeling like I missed my moment.

But maybe I didn’t lose anything.

Maybe God didn’t need the stories I thought were perfect.
Maybe He wanted this one.

Because somebody reading this is stuck too.

Waiting on an answer.
Waiting on a breakthrough.
Waiting on something they were told would never happen.

And I’m speaking to myself just as much as I’m speaking to you.

If God is still working, then it’s not over.

Prayer

Lord,

When we feel stuck, remind us that You are not.
You are the God who moves even in silence, the One who works in places we cannot see.

When we feel empty, remind us that through Jesus Christ, we are never without hope.
You fill what feels broken, and You breathe life into what we thought was lost.

Help us to trust Your timing, even when our plans fall apart.
Help us to believe Your Word over what we see, over what we feel, and over what others have spoken.

When doors close and answers delay, remind us that nothing is wasted in Your hands.
Even our waiting has purpose.
Even our pain is seen.

Teach us to rest in what Christ has already finished,
to remember that through His life, His death, and His resurrection,
You have already made a way where there was none.

And when we think we’ve lost the story,
when it feels like nothing is coming together,
show us that You are still writing,
and that through Christ, the ending is already secured.

Keep our hearts steady.
Keep our faith anchored.
Keep our eyes on You.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.

Bonus:

Even When It’s Not Adding Up

Even when the finances are not adding up,
even when the numbers don’t make sense on paper,
even when the bills are due and the provision hasn’t shown up yet, take comfort.

God is still working.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Even when the door you prayed for stays closed,
even when the answer is delayed longer than you expected, God is still working.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8

Even when your body is tired,
even when the diagnosis doesn’t look good, God is still working.

“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17

Even when your mind is overwhelmed,
even when you feel stuck like I did this morning, God is still working.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

And I know this might sound like something I’ve written before.

But today, this doesn’t feel like me trying to come up with something to say.

This feels like the message.

“We walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

So if you’re in an “even when” moment right now, hold on.

Not because everything makes sense, but because He does.

Cuz, thank you so much 💝✨️

Your words really touched me. This is exactly what I meant in the post. Even when things don’t make sense, and it feels like what we have isn’t enough, God is still working in ways we don’t always see right away.

I’m so proud of you for choosing to walk by faith in the middle of it. Keep trusting Him. He hasn’t forgotten you. 🙏💛 Kiss the boys for me.
